My Story

America was founded on two things: The spread of the Gospel and the trading of animal pelts. They seem distinct but history tells us a different story. Together they have built a unique American spirit based on the rugged frontiersman and how he worships Jesus Christ. From the Merchant Adventurers and the Pilgrims to the mountain men and cattle drivers the frontier spirit lives on in America and where you find that frontier spirit you will find the gospel in the midst of it.

In the heart of every man is this spirit. That is why men do wild things like taking on the vast wilderness while on a hunting trip, kayak great rivers, or camp in lonely places just to observe the heavens and connect with God. The great outdoors is an American icon, it is not separate from who we are but instead it is part of us. Just as the American west called to the mountain men to take up nothing but their rifle and a bedroll in search for adventure or how the plains called to the cowboys, the great outdoors still call to many as a way for boys and men to test their mettle.

The Old Northwest - now the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and parts of Minnesota - was once part of America's first frontier. It was a frontier before America broke from England and it was a frontier for only a short time after. These states have a rich history of that adventurous spirit. A man must know his past to know who he is. His past is part of his identity.

History is how we tell the stories of the past. Leather products are like an heirloom, a representative of that past. There is a feeling of nostalgia when you hold it in your hand. An old belt or wallet have their own history to them. Imagine the stories that a simple rifle sling could tell if it could speak, or the business transaction that a wallet witnessed. Your grandfather's belt has lasted his whole life, and he wore it everyday while he farmed his land. A belt wears the scars of it's past. The Old Northwest and the frontier is part of our history that is often never told, the hunting, the trapping or the exploration of what was once a wild place, runs in our blood. Whether it be hiking the porcupines, kayaking the Ohio River or cultivating the land, Old Northwest Leather brings to you high quality leather goods as a way to connect us to the old ways while participating in your wild adventures.

It is our vision that every outdoorsman would know their roots, embrace good stewardship of the land they are a apart of, and be filled with a frontier spirit.

My Mission:

To deliver high quality leather products to the outdoorsman that will aid him in his adventure while telling stories that will connect us to tradition and history.
