How We Support Conservation

Our symbol, the beaver, was the target of so many trappers for so many decades that their presence in the Old Northwest was almost eradicated. Though beavers are plentiful in the region it was not always this way. Other species such as carrier pigeons have gone extinct due to over hunting. Elk and bison were hunted out of the area and remain only in select parts of the region to this day. As hunters who have both a noble but tainted past, it is important to recognize both the bad impact of over hunting as well as the good.
Turkeys, once hunted to near extinction in Wisconsin have been reintroduced and have since exploded to a population that can maintain hunting pressure year after year. Elk in Wisconsin have been brought back to sustainable numbers and continue to slowly grow. These are just two examples of conservation success stories where hunters have led the charge in funding, collecting data, and do research to improve the land and wildlife populations.

For this reason Old Northwest Leather LLC is committed to educating and promoting good hunting practices. When you buy a product from us a portion of the proceeds goes to the Ruffed Grouse and American Woodcock Society who have been leading conservation efforts for decades.
